Assertiveness Skills
Who this course is aimed at
Anyone wishing to control their aggressive or submissive behaviour and who need to
be able to act assertively in work situations.

Course aim
To provide participants with the increased confidence to interact with work colleagues and customers in a manner which increases and maintains effective working relationships.
Course objectives
By the end of the workshop participants will:
- Be able to define what assertive behaviour is and is not.
- Identify assertive and non-assertive behaviours in others and self, and state their impact on other people.
- State the basic human rights (and responsibilities), and know how this supports the need for assertive behaviour.
- Have been introduced to a number of tools and techniques to help become assertive and handle non-assertive behaviour in others.
- Identified barriers to remaining assertive and practised techniques for overcoming these barriers to ensure an effective interaction takes place.
- Understand and adopt a ‘win-win’ approach to all business interactions.
- Be able to approach interactions using the following 4 steps:
i. listen
ii. understand without judgement
iii. respond appropriately saying what you think and feel with diplomacy and tact
stay focused and achieve a positive outcome - Contribute more effectively during interactions with others (including meetings).
